Sun Salutation for the Solstice

Jun 17, 2021

It's Solstice week which means time to enjoy Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation).

The Solstice marks the longest day of the Northern Hemisphere or the shortest day of the Southern Hemisphere. This is a great day for intention setting, reflection, and honoring tradition.

Many yoga practitoners celebrate the Solstice by performing the Surya Namaskar (meaning “Sun Offering”), also known as the Sun Salutation. The Sun Salutation is a series of flowing postures that celebrate and appreciate the Sun’s energy and it’s life-giving properties.

Some even suggest completing 108 Sun Salutations the day of the Solstice. However, it is not necessary to do that many! I recommend stretching your comfort level and doing a little more than you think you can (which is what I'll be doing)!

In this 5 minute video, I explain how to perform the full sequence flow safely and with proper form and biomechanics. This is a great full body warm up to stretch, balance, and align your muscles.

If you're new to Sun Salutations you can practice my beginning variation with modifications before progressing to this one. You can find that version by clicking here.

I hope your Solstice is full of love, joy, and peace.

Much love,

Ky
